The beginning
As we enter the 25th year, we
cannot help but look back at what our founders did
and what motivated them to form this association.
They had crossed the ocean to enter a new land with
only knowledge and skills in their possession. They
had to overcome many obstacles. The biggest obstacle was
being a “Foreign Medical Graduates” in a land
adopted by choice that they wished to be part of.
Gandhi said, “You must be the change you want to
see” and Martin Luther King preached “Our lives
begin to end the day we become silent about things
that matter”. They did not remain silent, they
made a change. Thy were instrumental in the U.S.Senate
passing an Act of Congress, recognizing them as
being equal to their fellow US graduates,“foreign”
no more. To these men and women we tip our hats as
we enter the 25 th year.

At the Annual General Body in Atlanta the outgoing
Treasurer, while presenting a proposed
budget promised to leave over $ 120,000/ available
as cash for use in the coming year showing a profit.
The incoming
Treasurer Dr.Singhvi got to work and discovered that
we had over $ 156,000/in accounts payable as of June
30 th. This meant a deficit and not a profit
from the
previous year as projected by the outgoing Treasurer.
This called for drastic steps to be taken. With the
input of the Officers we have cut close to $ 20,000/
from our monthly expenses. We are confident that
with the other measures that have been instituted to
curtail
expenses and increase income we will be in sound footing
very soon.Your help in increasing income will be
appreciated
In closing, please note the Fall Governing Body
meeting will be held November 17th and 18th at
Anaheim Hilton Hotel at 1 800 222 9923, group code
being "IMS" Please reserve your travel and
stay as soon as possible. Yours Dr. S.

We can proudly claim that today,AAPI is an "Icon"
both in the U.S. and in India. President Clinton to
President Abdul Kalam have acclaimed that “AAPI is the
standard for all Indian Diaspora to follow”.
On July 2nd, you entrusted Five Officers, Ten Regional
Directors, the Past President and Chair Board of
Trustees to execute the affairs of AAPI for the next
one year. Our goal is to expand and build what
the founders did 25 years ago by seeking out every
Physician of Indian Origin to become a member.
Let us call upon each of our friends to join AAPI and
set the agenda for the coming year, as well as for
the next 25 years. Let us inform them that the main
focus of AAPI is Continuing Medical Education,
Advocacy and Philanthropic activities in India and
the US. AAPI sponsors charitable clinics in the U.S.
and India at various locations, and involves itself
in several service and research projects. Let us not
forget the unique camaraderie that AAPI provides
that no other professional organization can. This is
because we are from the same background and share
common goals and aspirations.
