For the first time in AAPI's quarter-century long history, the first Women's Healthcare Summit was held in Houston, TX on March 1st, 2008. An elaborate range of healthcare issues, from diabetes and cardiovascular diseases to obesity and menopause and mental health were discussed.
In a well-attended reception that followed the summit, past and present women leaders of AAPI were honored for their contributions. It was decided to develop a souvenir about the contributions of women leaders in AAPI.
As more women assume leadership roles in society, it will be interesting to see how women's leadership styles differ from that of men and how that might impact the functioning of organizations and other entities. Are these differences a barrier or an asset to women who aspire to navigate territories that are traditionally male dominated?
We invite you to nominate an individual who have made significant contributions to the progress of AAPI to receive Women in Medicine Leadership Award sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim. In addition, all nominees will be featured in the AAPI Women's Leadership booklet. You can download the application
If you are nominating about someone please make sure you have their approval. The write up is not limited to physicians only. The deadline for receiving information has been extened to May 8, 2008. Please email the information to Dr. Dharmi Kanuga, Chair of AAPI Women Physicians Committee (djkanuga@gmail.com) or fax to AAPI Office at (630) 990-2281.
