AAPI Clinical Observership Program (AAPI-COP) Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this program open to those currently residing outside of the USA?
A: No, currently the program is only open to candidates currently residing in the USA on an official visa or green card/ citizenship
Q: Is this a hands-on experience?
A: No, currently it’s not a hands-on experience
Q: What specialties are offered?
A: Primary care, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, etc. Preferred specialty request is not guaranteed and is only based on the availability of preceptors in your area
Q: Is it in Inpatient or Outpatient setting?
A: Both. It depends on your individual preceptor’s practice. It can be outpatient only/Inpatient only/both. Specialty preceptors will take you to their Cardiac Cathlab, Endoscopy labs, ORs, etc.
Q: What is the duration of the program?
A: 12 weeks. You will rotate with 4 different preceptors, 3weeks each before completing the program and certification
Q: Does the required letter of reference have to be written by AAPI Members?
A: No. At least one letter is required and it can be issued by any licensed physician practicing in USA.
LORs from AAPI members are preferred but not required.
Q: Do I have to meet all the requirements?
A: Yes, all of the requirements must be met in order for the application to be screened
Q: Any research or publication opportunities?
A: Yes, some of the preceptors you work with are actively involved in research/ publications. Depending on your interest and performance preceptors can offer you to participate in their ongoing projects, but it’s at their discretion
Q: Does it guarantee residency for me?
A: No, this program has no official relationship with any residency programs
Q: What is the program fee? Application fee?
A: Since this is run by volunteer physicians and AAPI members there is no program fee. But once application is selected after screening a nominal non-refundable processing fee of $100 will be collected
