Endowments and Medical Rotations to India
With much interest, enthusiasm and support, AAPI is launching a new endeavor under the leadership of the President Ajeet R. Singhvi, MD. The purpose of this program is to send American Medical Students and Residents of Indian origin for four weeks rotation to an accredited Indian Medical School or Hospitals of choice in order to get exposure to the Indian Medical System, learn clinical skills as well as have experience of working in suboptimal conditions. Few weeks of work experience is expected to be a life time of learning through this program.
HOW TO APPLY:
To apply to the program:
- Medical Student (MS-III or IV) or Resident has to be enrolled in an accredited American Medical School or a Residency Program.
- He/she should be a good standing member of AAPI/MSRF Section. If you are not a member yet, please become a member here.
- He/she should have strong academic credentials and needs to obtain a letter of recommendation from a Professor or Dean or Program Director.
- He/she should submit a essay detailing their interest in participation, goals and personal strengths along with a brief resume.
This will be a year round program and the application should be sent at least 6-8 weeks before their expected date of start of the rotation. Application should be sent to
communserv@aapimsr.org.
FUNDING FOR THE PROGRAM:
This endeavor is sponsored by individual AAPI members who wish to establish an endowment in the memory of a loved one (in their name) and by various Medical Alumni Associations across the United States. The program will pay for travel and incidentals up to a maximum of $1500. Candidates will be responsible for finding the place of rotation, their lodging, boarding, Visa and other formalities. In the first year this program is targeting to send a maximum of 15 Medical Students and Residents for Clinical Rotation to India.
The success of any program is dependent on its long term survival. If you would commit to 3-5 years of support for this program, it's likely to be a long lasting legacy for the endowee, the beneficiary and of course for AAPI. The program will be closely monitored and the progress of the program will be communicated to the supporters as well as the general membership of AAPI.
AAPI member who wishes to support the program will also be able to recommend any particular candidate of his/her choice and the location of the rotation which will be considered by the committee. However, the final decision will rest with the committee.
A separate accounting will be kept and maintained for this endeavor. Please make your checks payable to AAPI-CF. For any suggestions and comments, please send an email to Vijaya Kodali at AAPI office at
vkodali@aapisua.org.
Sincerely,
