Indo-U.S. Physician Exchange Program

The American Professional Exchange Association (APXA) provides a free service that matches U.S. physicians with physicians in India for a voluntary and mutually agreed reciprocal visit. Under this program, hosts provide free lodging, board, and professional interactions to their visiting guests. These exchanges will prove beneficial – both professionally and culturally. Program’s information and needed forms are available at www.apxamembers.com. This program is supported by the U.S. State Department (Office of Professional and Cultural Exchanges); the American Medical Association (AMA) [International Medical Graduates (IMG) Section]; the World Health Organization (WHO – Global Health Workforce Alliance – GHWA); the Government of India; and the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI).APXA expects that United States physicians play an important role in improving medical education and health care in India and will also learn about local traditional medical practices. The visiting Indian physicians will get acquainted with U.S. health care system. Such exchanges will also result in joint projects benefiting both India and the United States. APXA will match physicians based on specialty and interest. Of the 950,000 practicing physicians in the United States, 45,000 are of Indian origin. Some of these physicians would like to visit India and provide their services and expertise. Similarly, some of the physicians, (especially 70,000 specialists), in India would like to visit the United States to avail state of the art knowledge and practice in their specialty. APXA provides an organized approach for physician exchange.
