Advocacy at federal and state governments including state licensing boards.

Personal guidance and counsel on discrimination in managed care and hospital privileges.

Legislative Advocacy AAPI has grown steadily from a grassroots organization to a national voice, serving as a strong advocacy group for Indian physicians and IMG's members interests are the focus of all AAPI efforts on capital hill. AAPI's grassroots campaign to influence legislative process or issues such a free and fair access to managed care plans, licensing, and reciprocity.

Organizational representation to organized medicine, including AMA, state and county medical societies also specialty and ethnic (IMG) organizations. AAPI lobbied intensely for the creation of IMG section in AMA. IMG section, created in December 1996, will voice concerns of IMG's and provide representation to AMA House of Delegates. This achievement is further testimony of AAPI's growing credibility and influence in main stream medical organization. AAPI also testified at the AMA to include merit as a criterion for resident selection.

Continuing Medical Education programs in U.S. and India. AAPI offers excellent CME programs in U.S. and in India in collaboration with the medical council of India. Members can participate in these CME programs.

Clerkship program in India for U.S. medical students. AAPI has established a formal medical student clerkship program with medical institutions in India. Likewise, faculty exchange is also sponsored by AAPI charitable foundation.

Charitable work in India and USA. Members can support motherland India through the activities of AAPI charitable foundation. AAPI runs 13 charitable clinics in India and helps the victims of national calamities. AAPI local chapters run charitable clinics in Chicago, Detroit, and Houston.

Cultural AAPI provides opportunities for members to meet their old friends and develop new friends and enjoy various cultural activities that are organized during the convention

Medical Student/Resident Section Almost 10 - 12% of freshman medical students in the U.S. are of Indian origin. AAPI brings together residents and medical students of Indian origin and exchanges ideas. Medical Students/Resident Section meet at the same time as AAPI governing body meetings and conventions.

Indian Community AAPI is working with other Indian organizations such as AAHOA can influence the important issues effecting Indian Americans and India. AAPI is one of the most important organizations through Indian Americans have the ability to build a solid political base. It can benefit the entire Indian community. AAPI and AAHOA are working together on various charitable projects in India.

Advocacy
Serving the interests of IMGs continues to be at the heart of our national advocacy strategy. AAPI unveiled guiding principles for how the U.S. Congress can use IMGs to solve its physician workforce crisis. AAPI physicians have also raised awareness on Capitol Hill of the contributions IMGs have made to America's underserved rural and inner-city communities and work force issues. AAPI recognizes and will continue to live up to its role as the leading voice for health care concerns of all Indian Americans.

Grievance help
A primary goal of AAPI is to render help to physicians who face discrimination in the areas of licensure, peer review or staff privileges [ Refer to the flow chart]

IMG Resource
AAPI organizes seminars which provide guidance with USMLE and CSA centers , getting into residency, survival skills during residency, visa information, job options and other issues that are of interest for newly arrived IMG physicians. AAPI plans to establish clinical externship programs similar to the one in Oklahoma to provide exposure to American medicine

Medical Students, Residents and Fellows Section
The section represents the fasted growing section. Current membership of 4000 plus members.

Practice Management
The practice Management Resource Committee will provide seminars for AAPI members on topics such as HIPPA security, anti-kickback rules, negotiating contracts etc.

Young Physicians Section:
Created to meet unique needs of young physicians who are in their first five years of practice.
