Nominations are invited for the following positions:
I. OFFICERS TO SERVE IN THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
President–Elect
Shall have served for two years on the Governing Body, of which one year must have been as an Elected Officer on the Executive Committee.
Vice President
Shall have served for two years on the Governing Body, of which one year must have been on the Executive Committee.
Secretary
Shall have served for two years on the Governing Body.
Treasurer
Shall have served for one year on the Governing Body.
II. BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Trustees 3 Positions. Besides being active members of AAPI for at least past 5 years, the candidates must have served a minimum of two years on the Governing Body.
III. REGIONAL DIRECTORS TO SERVE IN THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Regional Directors one from each of the following twelve regions comprising states.
- Region # 1 Pacific: AK, CA, HI, OR & WA
- Region # 2 Mountain: AZ, CO, ID, MT, NV, NM, UT & WY
- Region # 3 NW Central: IA, KS, MN, MO, NE, ND & SD
- Region # 4 SW Central: AR, LA, OK & TX
- Region # 5 NE Central-1:IL, IN & WI
- Region # 6 NE Central-2: MI & OH
- Region # 7 SE Central: AL, KY, MS & TN
- Region # 8 New England: CT, DE, MA, ME, NH, RI & VT
- Region # 9 Mid-Atlantic-1: NY
- Region # 10 Mid-Atlantic-2: NJ & PA
- Region # 11 South Atlantic: DC, MD, VA & WV
- Region # 12 South: FL, GA, NC & SC
* Candidates for position of regional directors must have been active member of AAPI atleast for 3 years and candidate for officer position must have been active member of AAPI for atleast 5 years.
NOMINATION PROCEDURE
- Nominees must be proposed and seconded in writing by AAPI members in good standing.
- ALL Nominees must have a current unrestricted Medical License in any one of the States or Union Territory of the U.S.
- A $500/non refundable nomination filing fee from each of the candidates, must accompany the filing papers before the deadline for the positions of: President-Elect, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and each of the candidates for the Board of Trustees.
- A $250/non-refundable nomination-filing fee from each of the candidates, must accompany the filing papers before the deadline for the position of Regional Directors.
ELECTION SCHEDULE AND DEADLINES
Nominations must be received at the AAPI Office by 4:00 PM Central Standard Time on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 either by U.S. Mail or by fax along with the following:
- A written letter of intent to serve if elected
- Two letters – 1. Proposed by AAPI Member and 2. Seconded by another AAPI member.
- Attestation questionnaire
- Authorization for release of Information
- Statement of Acceptance
- Candidates Agreement of Arbitration of Election disputes
- Nomination fees
Election Schedule:
According to AAPI Bylaws, if the date mentioned below happens to be a postal holiday, then the next business day (working day) would apply.
- Call for nominations on or before December 31st of the preceding year.
- Submission of nominations by January 31st of the election year.
- Slate of candidates by February 7th
- Candidates may withdraw by February 15th
- Certification of the voters list by February 15th
- Election officer to receive certified list by February 16th
- Certified list will be sent to Candidates by February 16th
- Candidates to approve the list by February 20th
- Ballots will be mailed by March 7th
- Ballots should reach the election agency by April 1st
- Results of the election will be announced by April 12th
- Request for recount must be made by April 14th
- Recount should be held by April 30th
- Final results to be announced by April 30th
It is the responsibility of the candidate to make sure that these papers are received by the AAPI office in time. Any and all nomination papers received after 4:00PM Central Standard Time on Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 will not be accepted.
Voters must select three Board of Trustee candidates out of the total number of contestants for Board of Trustees election. The ballot will be valid only if three candidates are chosen. If one or two candidates are chosen, the Board of Trustees portion of the ballot will be disqualified.
Candidates are provided with campaign and election guidelines.
FURTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates submitting nominations to serve as an Officer or to serve on the Board of Trustees are required to submit proof of their service as a member of the Governing Body.
Members of the Governing Body are members of the Executive Committee, Chairpersons of Standing Committees, Members of The Board and Presidents of dues paid component Member Organizations.
Candidates must have completed the two-year requirement at the time of submitting their nomination.
