AAPI Condemns Taliban Attack on Indians in Afghanistan
Washington, D.C. – AAPI released the following statement condemning a terrorist attack by the Taliban aimed at Indian physicians, government officials and other international residents in Kabul.

“This latest attack is yet another example of the global menace of international terrorism directed toward India and the Indian Diaspora,” said Dr. Vinod K. Shah, AAPI President. “The struggle for security and freedom in South Asia begins first and foremost in Pakistan, which has made fomenting terrorism and extremism in Afghanistan and India an official part of its foreign policy. It is tragic that this continual stream of murder and mayhem emanates from the government of Pakistan, and it is time for the international community to get tough with a government that sanctions murder as official governmental policy.”

Today’s terrorist attack killed nearly 20 people, injured dozens more and began with a car bomb directed at a hotel used by Indian physicians. The car bomb was followed by a suicide attack and gun battles that lasted for hours. Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai stated that this was a “terrorist attack against Indian citizens.” He also stated that India, which is one of the largest economic donors to Afghanistan, would continue to have strong relations with his nation.

AAPI mourns the loss of lives and commends the bravery and sacrifices made by Indian physicians in treating the men, women and children of Afghanistan.
