AAPI Signs AMA Coalition Letter to Congress on SGR Repeal

Jan 26, 2012

Washington, D.C. - Today, the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) issued the following statement after signing a coalition letter led by the American Medical Association (AMA) calling on Congress to repeal the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula.

“It only gets more expensive if Congress kicks the can down the road once again and fails to address the Medicare Sustainable Growth rate formula this year,” said AAPI president Dr. Sunita Kanumury. “We’ve got to get a breakthrough this year and take the uncertainty out of the Medicare system for Medicare beneficiaries and America’s physicians,” said Kanumury.

“Our country cannot afford further delays to fixing the Medicare reimbursement system,” said Dr. VijayaLakshmi Appareddy, chair of AAPI’s legislative committee. “We’ve got to get this fixed now,” said Appareddy.

The letter was sent to U.S. Congressman Dave Camp (R-MI), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. The letter was signed by 62 national medical associations and 47 state medical associations and can be seen here.
