On behalf of Dr. Vinod K. Shah, we bring to your attention an important legislative alert.
An amendment has been filed in the Senate to the health care reform bill to add 15,000 residency slots, which would provide for 40,000 new physicians during the next ten years. This amendment was introduced by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) along with Senators Bill Nelson (D-FL), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senator John Kerry (D-MA), Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT).
Dr. Shah asks that in your role as AAPI leader, you call your Senator with this important message:
"Please cosponsor and vote for Senate Amendment 2909 when it comes to the Senate floor for a vote. This important amendment adds 15,000 residency slots, which would provide for 40,000 new physicians over the next 10 years and helps address the current physician shortage our nation is experiencing."
