Ragavendra R Baliga, MBBS, DNB (New Delhi), MD, MBA, FRCP (Edin), FACP, FACC has excelled as an educator on three continents including Asia, Europe and North America and is passionate about educating the lay public, medical students, internal medicine residents, cardiology fellows and CME for cardiologists.

He is a recipient of the “2017 Gifted Educator Award” an apex international award of the American College of Cardiology, an organization with ~55000 members worldwide.

He delivered the 2010 JP Das Oration at the Indian College of Cardiology Annual Meeting.

He has received numerous teaching awards and his excellence in teaching is captured by one student feedback “Dr. Baliga rocks”. The University of Michigan 2002 Token of Appreciation from Medical Students (TAMS) Award with the citation “Thank you very much. You really made a difference in making medical school an interesting and exciting appearance”. In 2011, he was the recipient of The Ohio State University Department of Internal Medicine Teaching Excellence Award.

He is Professor and Associate Director of Cardiology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He completed his medical school from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore and has taught at Bangalore Medical College, Royal Postgraduate Medical School at Hammersmith Hospital/Imperial College of Medicine, Science and Technology, London, England, University of Aberdeen, Scotland, Harvard Medical School, and University of Michigan.

He has written over 350 editorial comments/blog posts on www.acc.org and its predecessor Cardiosource over a ten-year period. He serves as CME editor for JACCand JACC Imaging. As the E-Learning Editor/Associate Editor for Education forwww.acc.org he has introduced EKG of the Month and Image of the Month. He served as co-Editor-in-Chief/Consulting Editor of Heart Failure Clinics of North America with nearly 50 editorials for five-years. He also serves as Deputy Editor forGlobal Heart and was an advisory editorial board of journal Cardiology Review. He has co-authored papers in Circulation, Am J Cardiology, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology (ATVB) and ClinicalAutonomic Research.

He is the Editor-in-Chief, Oxford University Press Series of Cardiovascular Handbooks. He has co-edited several textbooks in cardiology including Practical Cardiology, Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy and Introduction to CT Imaging,Lippincott, Dyslipidemia, Hypertension and, Statin Prescribing Guide, Oxford University Press, Crash Course Cardiology, Elsevier, Management of Heart Failure, Springer, and Textbook of Cardiology, McGraw Hill. His books have been translated to Mandarin, Polish and Italian. He also written several books related to general internal medicine including 250 Cases in Clinical Medicine (now in 4th edition),Crash Course Internal Medicine, MCQs for the MRCP, and MCQs in General Medicineall published by Elsevier

He has been active in educating the lay public in town hall meetings, schools and on TV including CBS-60 Minutes, NPR/WOSUCBS-10TV, CBS-New York, Fox News, and ABC-Houston. He has been quoted in several newspapers including Deccan Herald, India Abroad, Pittsburgh TribuneColumbus DispatchYahoo News,International Business Times-AustraliaLive ScienceOrlando Sentinel and Chicago Tribune

Dr. Baliga was the President of the North American Chapter of St. John’s Medical College Alumni Association. As a result of his efforts St. John’s Medical College has its own journal that has improved the visibility of this school to be one of the tops medical schools in India. He has been actively involved in the organization of conferences for Association of Specialty Professors of North America and OSU India Gateway. He was also visiting Professor to University of Naples Federico II, 2011, Facolta di Medicina e Chirugia, Italy. He and his wife participate in volunteer activities of Harvard Club of Central Ohio, Columbus Academy, and The Association of Physicians of Indian Origin Central Ohio Chapter. His wife is a board member of ASHA Ray of Hope that works with victims of domestic violencein the South Asian community.
