Newsletters - AAPI CENTRAL OHIO ANNUAL CHARITY GALA

AAPI Central Ohio (AAPICO) held its Annual Charity Gala on September 20, 2014. This was the 9th Gala held for charity by Central Ohio AAPI, with funds raised this year going to the Ohio Aids Coalition. The charitable gala always attracts a huge crowd and this year was no exception. This year, the event was held at the Hilton at Easton Town Center and was attended by several hundred AAPI members, family members and guests. The keynote speaker was Dr. Michael Drake, the new president of The Ohio State University. Other highlights of the evening included an address by Mr Clarence Mingo, Franklin County Auditor, a group dance performed by Nalanda School of Dance, a solo dance by Ms. Kaustavi Sarkar, fashion show "Ensemble by Ritu" by designer Ritu Anand. and a comedy show by Mr Jack Shepherd. DJ Dalbir Mavi from Cincinnatti also made sure that a fun time was had by all, by keeping the music rocking for the evening dance party.
 
A CME program organized by CME chair, Dr. Tarun Mehra, was held earlier in the afternoon for physicians. Among the speakers for the CME were Julie Mangino MD Infectious Disease Specialist at Wexner Medical Center, who talked about C. difficile in 2014, John Johnson MD who talked about Newer therapies for depression, Anjali Sotaskar MD and Uday Nori MD who spoke about Renal and Pancreas Transplant, Romi Bhasin MD who spoke about Newer Therapies in Diabetes management, Sreedhar Billakanty MD who updated everone on the latest cholesterol guidelines and Nikesh Batra MD who spoke about the role of Spinal cord stimulation in chronic pain. Rajiv Hede MD also delighted the audience with a non CME talk on the joys of single malt whiskey and a whiskey tasting was held for the attendees.

Past recipients from Central Ohio AAPI charitable dinner include the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Haven of Hope, Autistic Society and Meals on Wheels and OSU Gateway project. .
