As regional director of AAPI Pacific, I will aim to improve AAPI’s national image and make the different chapters under the AAPI umbrella more unified. In addition, I want to focus on getting second generation physicians more involved with AAPI. There are a scores of young Indian men and women graduating from medical schools and the number is only getting bigger. By showing them the accepting and constructive community AAPI has to offer, I believe we can have them as valuable contributors to our organization and have these new members carry on our traditional and modern values.
My productive experience in AAPI since 1992 as a patron member, and community roles helped prepare me for this position. As chairman of AAPI-CF, I organized several medical camps in some of the most underprivileged communities in India to serve the people who can barely afford running water, let alone healthcare. As an example, to make medicine more accessible, I helped in opening a new clinic in Paunta Saihib, Himachal Pradesh where none existed before.
As far as local involvement goes, I am the current director of the ICU for Menifee Hospital, past Chief of Staff for Menifee Valley Medical Center, and current Vice Chief of Staff for Hemet Valley Medical Center, as well as an active member of the board of directors for all the hospitals in the area. In more spiritual roles, I have served as Chairman and President of our local Sri Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Riverside. And recently, in Hemet, my wife and I started Aum Spiritual Center. Located in the heart of our small town, the center functions as a growing meeting place and activity hub for the growing Indian-American community here.
